I can’t believe the Cubs’ season is over before it’s begun. At least last year they teased us until August, the year before, September, the year before that, October (see a pattern?). Shame on us if we think Mark Prior and Kerry Wood will be healthy in 2006. I’m so glad I lost out on the lottery to spend big bucks on those new bleacher seats. Maybe I’ll wait to buy them at half-price from some born-yesterday fool on eBay–I’d still like to see the renovated park.

If “they” (Cubs management and owners) want “me” (loyal-till-I-die Cubs fan) to change my mind, I see only one way: go out and find replacements for Wood and Prior right now. From what I see, their names are Roger Clemens and Matt Clement. Clemens and Clement can hold the fort until Wood, Prior and/or Wade Miller emerge from the hospital ward.

Then next year, please take old pro and Hall of Famer Fergie Jenkins’ advice: “If they ain’t throwin’ in December, don’t count on ’em April through September.”
