– John Mahoney will not appear in the upcoming Northlight Theatre production of William Nicholson’s “The Retreat From Moscow” under the direction of B.J. Jones. According to a Northlight spokesman, Mahoney, 66, needs more time to recuperate from an illness. Matt DeCaro will appear in Mahoney’s place in the play, due to open May 17.

– “American Idol” judge Paula Abdul says a man assaulted her at a private party in Los Angeles last weekend, according to a police report. Abdul filed the report Tuesday, alleging she was a victim of battery, police Lt. Paul Vernon said Thursday. “According to Abdul, the man at the party argued with her, grabbed her by the arm and threw her against a wall,” Vernon said. “She said she had sustained a concussion and spinal injuries.”

– Keira Knightley has donated the Vera Wang gown she wore to the Oscars to raise money for Oxfam’s relief work in East Africa. The burgundy gown will be up for bid on eBay from April 21 to April 30.
