RedEye asked drivers at the BP station on LaSalle Boulevard and Ontario Street: How is the higher cost of gas affecting your daily commute?
“I don’t give driving much thought because I live downtown, so I don’t have to fill up very often.
I do feel bad for the people who have to commute and pay the high prices, though.”
Lauren Baker, 26 [ Chicago ]
“I think the gas prices are ridiculous. Three bucks for gas is frickin’ crazy. I usually take the Blue Line, but sometimes I have to drive. Like today, I’m going to Indiana and will fill up there because it’s, like, 60 cents cheaper.”
Mike Pineda, 30 [ Bucktown ]
“I usually take public transportation, so I don’t really drive. If the gas prices keep going up, then I won’t drive very often at all. I won’t have a choice.”
John Altobelli, 21 [ North Riverside ]
