“DOWN IN ALBION”
RATING: 3 SOUND LEVELS
Rock’s junkie-hero de jour Pete Doherty is locked in a constant struggle between creativity and self-destruction–a wrestling match that propels him into dark, exciting places well worth the vicarious visit. “Down in Albion” shows Doherty closer than ever to his promise, bringing his typically ragged, strung-out sound together. As on any 16-track album, there are a few misfires, but the early-Beatles-gone-bad “What Katy Did Next” and pseudo-soul stomper “Back From the Dead” shine.
