MON 5/1

Hash bash

Mom always fixed a mean plate of corned beef hash, but we’re gearing up for a different sort of palate pleaser now that we’re able to prep our own plates (read: coffee). Fete Polish Constitution Day with social running group the Hash House Harriers during a 4-mile fun run (or fast walk), then cool down with a free Polish beer or two. 7 p.m. $6. Wrightwood Skewers & Cafe, 3640 W. Wrightwood Ave. 312-409-2337.

Room full of Virgins

They may not all be 40 years old (and unabashedly innocent), but we suspect a few Carell look-alikes will be bumbling around Funky Buddha’s Movie Night bash. Dress as the movie character of your choice, and sip $5 Smirnoff cocktails and $3 import bottles. DJs Matt Roan and Mano spin ’80s and hip-hop. 9 p.m. $5. Proceeds benefit Children’s Memorial Hospital. 728 W. Grand Ave. 312-666-1695.

You want french fries with that?

OK, we get the whole french-fries-aren’t-really-French thing. But what about hot dogs? And if this Yankee vendor dandy is served up across the Atlantic, do they call it an American Dog? Or a Hot Yank? Give your brain a rest from the conundrum. In fact, tell your boss you’re unable to work at all, because it’s French Labor Day (Fete du Travail) and Brasserie Jo is serving up free French hot dogs in the bar. Talk about tasty cultural studies! 5 p.m. 59 W. Hubbard St. 312-595-0800.

We art Mondays

Yeah, we said “art,” because we certainly don’t “heart” any weekday that puts an end to our lazy, wrinkled weekends. But Monday marks more than a return to ironed clothing; it’s also the final day to catch Art Chicago. You know, the fair that went from park to Mart last-minute? Catch more than 2,000 artists’ efforts, including paintings, sculpture, mixed media, film, video and installations. 11 a.m. $15. Merchandise Mart, 320 N. Wells St. 312-226-4700.

TUE 5/2

Go ahead, patronize us!

You’re finished looking for the ultimate sugardaddy/mama. These days, you’re taking applications for your own personal art patron (now that’s classy). Didn’t score big at Art Chicago? Try lowering your bar. In fact, try hitting the bar. Minibar serves free Patron tequila, which means you can celebrate Cinco de Mayo a little early and meet an acceptable Patron. Finally. 9 p.m. No cover. 3341 N. Halsted St. 773-871-6227.

Project runaway

Sometimes we’re guilty of pretending to be type A’s, especially when it comes to crafts. It all started when we watched those “Project Runway” fashionistas in action; before you could say “hot glue Gunn,” we were drowning in projects. Scoop up your most recent reject and head to monthly knitting circle Stitch ‘n’ Bitch. Santino ‘tudes not allowed (unless singing is your forte). 5:30 p.m. Free. Museum of Contemporary Art, 220 E. Chicago Ave. 312-280-2660.
