Moviegoers have spoken: They don’t like the crazy, couch-jumping version of Tom Cruise.

Sure, “Mission: Impossible III” was No. 1 at the box office over the weekend, but its estimated $48 million haul was below most expectations and $10 million less than “Mission: Impossible 2.”

“Expectations were really high for this film. I think it’s a good number, but people were obviously expecting better numbers,” said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations.

“There’s a lot to be said for how a star’s public persona can affect a movie’s box office.”

On the bright side, Keri Russell has officially recovered from her near career-shattering haircut and had her biggest opening weekend ever.
