I am continually perplexed by those who are offended by hearing “The Star-Spangled Banner” sung in Spanish.

If they’d like to oppose it as a matter of taste, that’s one thing.

But many act as if Spanish is downright subversive.

Our country is great not because of its language but because of its commitment to freedom, liberty, justice and other high ideals.

And those ideals are the same in any language.
