There have been losses during the Cubs’ recent run of futility, and there have been bad losses. Friday’s top-of-the-fifth fiasco has to rank as one of the most rank times during the current 1-10 slide. Among the weirdness in the five-run inning, when the Padres blew open a 3-2 game: catcher Michael Barrett sniping at Dave Roberts as the Padre scored, prompting a war of words and warnings to be issued to both benches, and Ronny Cedeno flipping the ball to an ump thinking he had called time when apparently he hadn’t–allowing another run to score. Just 127 games to go.
