2006:

• The Online Journalism Award for service journalism to chicagotribune.com for “Mercury Menace”

• The National Association of Hispanic Journalists “n” award for print design to Hugo Espinosa for the Tempo feature, “7 Wonders of Chicago”

• Casey Medals for Meritorious Journalism to Cornelia Grumman for Editorial Writing for her work on “Juvenile Injustice”

• The Asian American Journalists Association award for excellence in print news coverage of Asian American issues to Monica Eng for “Flameout: The Best-Selling Author Iris Chang”

• City and Regional Magazine Association Awards to Chicago magazine for Bryan Smith’s “Betting Her Life” (Gold, Feature Story), “Catholics in Chicago” (Gold, Special Issue), Jim Ylisela’s “Playing Lardball” (Silver, Civic Journalism). Additionally, the magazine won the bronze prize for General Excellence.

• Overseas Press Club Award for best international reporting in the print medium showing a concern for human condition for “Pipeline to Peril” by Cam Simpson

• The Henry E. Bradshaw Memorial Award for best travel writing grand prize was awarded to Alan Solomon by the Society of American Travel Writers.

2005:

• Casey Medals for Meritorious Journalism for Cornelia Grumman for editorials on children and families

• The Templeton Religion Story of the Year from the Religion Newswriters Association for its 12-part series on Islam

• Transportation writers Michael Oneal and Jim Mateja won an International Automotive Media Association Best of Show Award for their outstanding story on new General Motors’ marketing czar Mark LaNeve.

• Leah Eskin received the first place award for Food Columns from The Association of Food Journalists (AFJ).

• American Bar Association 2005 Silver Gavel Award Winners: Flynn McRoberts, Maurice Possley and Steve Mills have been honored for “Forensics Under the Microscope”

• Society of American Business Editors and Writers Service Award: Bill Barnhart
