I support bicycle riding in the city. Not only is it great exercise, but it is a big gas saver as well as a better way of transportation without polluting our city. Unfortunately I don’t have that choice. I have to drive a car, which is part of my job description. I am driving around the North Side of Chicago every day for at least three hours per day. Just the other day, I almost hit a woman riding on her bicycle. She rode right through a stop sign on a residential street. I managed to stop on time because I was going 20 m.p.h.
I said to myself, “Oh dear, the season is back and the bikes are out. I better keep my eyes open.”
If I had hit that woman, the outcome would have been devastating.
To the Chicagoans who prefer to ride bikes:
Please follow the traffic signs.
If you are on the streets, you are up against motor vehicles.
Your life is at a high risk when on the streets, especially with road rage and fast speeding cars that may not stop for you.
Keep riding.
And enjoy a very safe summer.
