Think you have the best-looking yard on the block? Then the odds are, you’re over 55 and you’re a woman.
A Harris Poll commissioned by the lawn product maker Vigoro recently asked 1,000 homeowners if they had a better yard than their neighbors. The most confident gardeners were women 55 or over–54 percent said they have the best yard. The least confident were working women with children. Seventy-three percent said their neighbors outdid them.
If you’re in need of a few simple solutions to put your lawn in the running for best looking on the block, here are suggestions from Vigoro:
– Start an annual lawn program that includes regular fertilizing and insect control.
– Edge. Create a shape edge of separation between your lawn and sidewalks, driveways and planting beds.
– Trim around trees and beds with a string trimmer.
– Over-seed your lawn in the fall.
– Mulch in beds to control weeds and hold moisture for flowers and trees.
