The American Civil Liberties Union launched a campaign Wednesday against government phone snooping called “Don’t Spy on Me.” The ACLU is asking members of the public to add their names to a formal complaint on its Web site demanding that the FCC investigate whether phone companies gave call records to the National Security Agency. RedEye asked people if they’d consider adding their names to the complaint.
“Sure, I’d sign something like that. This is an invasion of people’s privacy. I think the government has more than enough to do without [tracking individuals’ calls].”
George Cole [ 51, Park Forest ]
“Not me personally. I don’t mind they have a list of all the calls made. I’d mind if they were listening to my calls.”
Jeff Taylor [ 30, Lakeview ]
“Yes. If somebody’s going to be looking at phone records, they should have a subpoena and go through the regular system. … I don’t know if I’d go out of my way to sign it, but if it was presented to me I would.”
Lisa Reichelderfer [ 26, Ukrainian Village ]
