Grandaddy
“JUST LIKE THE FAMBLY CAT”
RATING: 3 SOUND LEVELS
The disbanded Grandaddy has left “Fambly Cat” for its tombstone. Leader Jason Lytle is equally fond of wheezy vintage synthesizers and fuzzed-out electric guitars. “Summer … It’s Gone” begins with an easygoing acoustic guitar and Lytle’s fragile voice before building into a chugging rocker, then dissolving into a spacey keyboard interlude. Aside from some cloying touches (a chorus of meows, an operatic finale declaring “I’ll never return”), “Fambly Cat” is a celebration rather than an elegy.
