MUNDELEIN

Members of the Carmel Catholic High School Jazz Band and Jazz Combo recently won First Place in a national competition at the 2006 New York Music Festival. The Jazz Band won First Place/Silver Rating and the Jazz Combo won First Place/Gold Rating in the Category 3 Large High School Division. Ryan McFadden, a senior at Carmel, was named outstanding soloist.

The board of directors of Carmel Catholic has named Judith Mucheck as the school’s new president, effective July 1. Mucheck will replace Sister Mary Frances McLaughlin, who has served as president since 1996.

VERNON HILLS, DISTRICT 73

To create an efficient fall transportation experience, bus routes in the district will be created and then frozen until after Sept. 18. Last fall, hundreds of changes were requested by parents in the weeks just prior to and right after the start of school. The adjustments made it difficult for drivers to practice routes and for the district to monitor the situation.

MUNDELEIN, DISTRICT 75

FREMONT, DISTRICT 79

The Board of Education will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its new school at 1:30 p.m. Sunday adjacent to the elementary school at 28908 N. Fremont Center Rd. Call 847-566-0169.

The Board of Education hired Denise Glasgow as part-time building administrator and acting principal for Grades 3 through 5 in the district for the 2006-07 school year. Glasgow will become the Grades 3 through 5 principal when the new school opens in the fall of 2007. Call 847-566-0169.

LINCOLNSHIRE, DISTRICT 103

The Board of Education will hold an Open Session Dialogue Workshop at 7 p.m. Thursday in the cafeteria at Wright Junior High School, 1370 Riverwoods Rd. A possible referendum will be discussed. Call 847-295-1560.

LAKE FOREST, DISTRICT 115

Lake Forest High School will offer counseling to students during the summer from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Monday, Tuesday and June 7; from 9 a.m. to noon June 12, 19, 26, July 19 and 26; and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 13, 20, 27, July 11, 12, 18 and 25 at the high school, 1285 N. McKinley Rd. Counselors will enroll students; discuss post-secondary options; discuss schedules for the 2006-07 school year; and answer questions. To register, call 847-582-7304.

VERNON HILLS, DISTRICT 128

Amy Palace, a senior at Vernon Hills High School, was the winner of a Gold Key Award in a writing contest sponsored by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers.
