Who’s in it: Jang Dong-gun, Lee Jung-jae

What it’s about: A fanatical, modern-day pirate named Sin (Jang) wants to vaporize North and South Korea with radioactive waste, but Navy intelligence officer Kang Se-jong (Lee) stands in his way.

“As ‘Typhoon’ moves from exotic locale to its climactic, rain-swept battle on the eponymous death ship, it’s too easy to lose sight of what makes this action flick different from most others. It deploys formula to get at emotions grafted into its home country’s psyche. One would like to think action movies in America and elsewhere might be likewise inspired to take similar chances. One–as always–knows better.”
