O-LIVER TWIST
MON 6/5
“Can I have some more, sir?” will be a moot query for quack addicts come late August, thanks to a citywide ban on foie gras. Can’t stomach the thought of bidding the controversial dish adieu? Go tete-a-tete with Chef Tony Graves’ ducky option, Farewell to Foie, a seven-course tasting menu featuring the liver delicacy in each dish, from horseradish-crusted halibut with foie gras sauce to a raspberry-thyme waffle with foie gras mousse. $85. 5:30 p.m. Meritage Cafe & Wine Bar, 2118 N. Damen Ave. 773-235-6434.
We love short shorts
We’re not pulling your tail: Collaboraction’s launch party for “The Pull Toy (and his Paisan),” a world premiere comedy, features a small-plates buffet of 20 short performances lasting 30 seconds or less. The works are a best-of selection culled from this year’s auditions for “Sketchbook,” the company’s annual theater smorgasbord set for August. Appetizers and drinks also grace the menu. 8 p.m. $10 suggested donation benefits Collaboraction. Cobra Lounge, 235 N. Ashland Ave. 312-226-9633.
Darn it!
You scored a date with a studious lit-wit, but haven’t cracked a novel since poor Yorick was flesh and blood? Brush up on Shakespeare without killing your buzz at “Sockspeare Presents King John,” a fast-paced, comic retelling of the Bard’s historical drama with puppets (yes, flesh-and-blood actors supply the voices). 8 p.m. Through June 27. See metromix.com for schedule. $10. The Sockspeare Theatre Group at Stage Left Theatre, 3408 N. Sheffield Ave. 815-546-0788.
Spin class
The training wheels are long gone, but so is your willingness to squash the ‘do with a helmet and trade in the CTA for a bike commute. Switch gears; riding to work doesn’t have to be an uphill battle. Chicagoland Bicycle Federation dishes out tips on proper cycling clothing, hygiene, storage, route selection and how to deal with inclement weather. Noon. Free. Fairmont Hotel, 200 N. Columbus Drive. 312-427-3325.
TUE 6/6
A different angle
Friday’s morning-commute fender-bender led to one legendary weekend bender. Add in your penchant for gender-benders, and you’ve got an indie film plot. But here’s a bender you’re not as familiar with: yoga. Despite the fact that everyone you know espouses the benefits of Bikram, you’re still not sure why dogs and plows are essential ingredients. Find out with a four-week intro series at Bloom Yoga Studio. New students get discounts on store items, massages and more. 6 p.m. Tuesdays through June 27 or 3:30 p.m. Sundays through July 2. $50. 4663 N. Rockwell St. 773-463-9642.
WED 6/7
