Norman Cornwall, age 85, died peacefully at home on May 31, 2006, from melanoma. He is survived by Marian, nee Lynch, his beloved wife of 60 years. Born in Chicago to May and Ray Cornwall on May 14, 1921, he was their only child. Attended St. Mel’s High School and joined the army in 1942. He served in the U.S. Infantry Division during WWII, surviving five major battles including the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Purple Heart among other honors. Following the war, he was married to Marian Lynch on January 19, 1946. He was a wonderful father to his four children, Richard (Nancie) Cornwall of Pennsylvania, Patricia (Glenn) Abrams of Texas, Dr. Susan (Michael) Fee of Illinois and Kathleen (James) Sachs of Missouri. His 11 grandchildren, Jessica, Ryan, Mary, Kelly, Robert, Patrick, Kevin, John H., John K., Elizabeth and Marykate, adored him and will miss him greatly. His faithful beagle, Abbie, will miss their long walks together. Visitation with the family Sunday, June 4, from 3 to 8 p.m., at Toon Funeral Home, 4920 Main Street, Downers Grove, IL. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s of Gostyn Church in Downers Grove, 10 a.m. Monday, June 5. Burial at Queen of Heaven Cemetery with military honors.
