Thanks to Anne Alt for documenting the plight of the pedestrian in Chicago (“Walking hazards,” Voice of the people, May 28). A pedestrian plan is indeed needed.

A walker dodges traffic in the crosswalk on a walk signal.

Traffic congestion causes crosswalks to be blocked by vehicles pushing ahead to make a right turn or to get through intersections before the red signal.

Stop signs and red lights are ignored and some drivers do not grant the walker’s right of way on a walk signal.

It is a serious pedestrian challenge.

It was an unpleasant experience to once witness a Chicago pedestrian lose that challenge.
