It seems that Americans complain unceasingly about the price of gasoline but lack the collective will to reduce their own consumption of fuel, which is how we can exert price pressure in a supply-constrained world.
How can we reduce consumption?
– Drive at the posted speed limit, which, by the way, is the law (unfortunately I think most Americans are too selfish and feel that traffic laws do not apply to them).
– Don’t accelerate needlessly (my own bad habit, which I have overcome).
– Don’t carry unnecessary cargo.
– Keep tires properly inflated.
– Combine errands to reduce trips.
– Carpool where possible.
– Avoid unnecessary idling.
– Use cruise control.
– Use overdrive (if you have it).
– Replace dirty air filters.
– Use the proper weight of oil.
As a side note, I am fascinated by those who rage against illegal immigration but consider themselves above the law if it involves a posted speed limit. I know, “but everyone does it, so that is OK … “
