Last week we traveled through candyland, the All Candy Expoat McCormick Place, where hundreds of vendors hawked their sweets. Here are the five most interesting things we found:

MICROWAVEABLE MINUTE FUDGE

What it is: Mix that you combine with 2 tablespoons of water and microwave for 45 seconds, then cool.

Notable words on package: “Candy shop quality fudge.”

Verdict: Microwaved-quality fudge.

ALERTZ ENERGY BALLZ

What it is: Chewy candy for mental alertness –with a cappuccino kick (whopping 40 mg. of caffeine per ball).

Notable words on package: “This is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.”

Verdict: Puts the z in candy buzz.

TUNG TOOS

What it is: Temporary candy tattoos for the tongue.

Notable words on package:”[Step] 5: Stick tongue out at nearest friend.”

Verdict: Brilliant. Bold, clear, yummy tattoo. Our favorite is the rocket ship.

MEXICAN DINNER GUMMI CANDY

(huevos rancheros, chili con carne, taco, tortilla, etc.)

What it is: Glucose syrup, sugar, gelatine and lots more shaped like traditional North American cuisine.

Notable words on package: “Colours added (yellow 5, yellow 6, red 40, blue 1, titaniumdioxide).”

Verdict: We may never eat Mexican again.

TRAVEL CANDY TOOTHBRUSH

What it is: Candy brushon plastic handle, with sweet toothpasty goop inside.

Notable words on package: “For nutrition information, Please call Candy Planet at 1-800-845-4726.”

Verdict: We called and a live operator graciously told us that the hard candy brush has a mere 5 calories, but the sour “paste” has 74.4 calories. She told us that there’s also a sugar-free version, presumable for the dental office market.
