The World Cup is all about soccer and international rivalries and blah, blah, blah.

What it’s really about is you, the wonderfully mad fans.

Forget the U.S. team’s blowout loss (what, no slaughter rule?) and notice that TV ratings and Internet use is up for this tournament for all games, and the U.S. was watched by 2.14 million U.S. households, the most-watched program on ESPN2 this year.

I mean, just imagine if the U.S. was winning.

An example: More than 3,000 South Korea fans rose early Tuesday and got to Schaumburg’s Medieval Times to watch the Korea-Togo game at 8 a.m. Is the sun even up then?

But there they were, lined up for the event arranged by the Korean American Sports Council of Chicago. By 6:45 a.m., they had given away 3,000 red shirts to promote the game and had to turn some fans away.

This was South Korea vs. Togo, folks.

I’ve watched games from the start, and I will watch them to the end, and without following the international game, I still have my own personal favorites (Netherlands, if you’re reading, let’s stay on the attack).

So almost a week into the tourney, I collected a few favorite photos from Tuesday’s action. Fellow fanatics, I salute you.
