Eric Benson, a/k/a Philip Jerome Stumpf, died on June 9, 2006 in the arms of his loved ones at Illinois Masonic Hospital after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ana Rose, nee Carlo; two daughters, Kristin Maria Anderson and Susannah Marlene (Jim) Papandrea; grandchildren, Madeleine Grace and Seth Michael Ruttenberg and Isabella Anderson; mother-in-law, Palmira Carlo; and sister, Mary Duffy of Chula Vista, CA. Originally a radio actor, Eric was blacklisted by the American Activities Committee during the McCarthy Era for refusing to name names. He surrounded himself with books and classical music. His primary love was baseball and the Chicago Cubs if they had had a better season he would probably still be alive! A Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 16 at 5:30 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2515 Palatine Rd., Inverness, IL 60067. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his name to the MPD Foundation, 858 W. Armitage St. #273, Chicago, IL 60614. Arrangements entrusted to the Cremation Society of Illinois.
