In the June 11 sports section there was a mention of Jim Leyritz using “little helpers” to hit two home runs in a June 30, 1990, game against the White Sox. The next day, Leyritz was the left fielder who couldn’t catch a fly ball and helped the Sox to score four unearned runs in beating Andy Hawkins, who pitched a no-hitter but lost. Guess those “little helpers” don’t apply to defense.
