– A tourism official said Saturday he may have been duped into believing Britney Spears was considering having her baby in Namibia. Deputy Environment and Tourism Minister Leon Jooste said he made his original statement after receiving a call from the United States on Monday. But the connection was so bad, he said, that he never got a name or contact information for the person. Asked if the call might have been a hoax, Jooste said: “It is really possible.”
– A tour bus carrying Ricky Skaggs from a performance at Tennessee’s Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival struck and killed an Ohio man, authorities said. The bus was on Interstate Highway 24 Friday near the festival exit when the man stepped onto the road, said a Tennessee Department of Safety spokeswoman, adding: “There was no fault on the part of the bus driver.”
– More woes for the Rolling Stones. Guitarist Ron Wood is being treated for alcohol dependency in London, the BBC reported Saturday. But the band insists he will join the European tour. Wood’s publicist confirmed to the BBC that the 59-year-old had checked into a clinic and was in need of rest.
