Yes it is reckless to not give breast-feeding a good chance at succeeding. This means educating yourself about it, getting help when and if you need it, and seeking more help if you’re still having problems. This means understanding your rights to pump in adequate facilities at work and demanding your employer meet its legal requirements. This means planning to nurse for a year or more and not giving up at the first obstacle. Nearly every woman who gives birth to a baby can nurse. Almost every barrier or problem can be overcome with the right support and information. Breast-feeding is healthier, cheaper and more convenient than formula-feeding. Why wouldn’t a woman dedicate herself to making it work?
