Grant Witt, an 8th grader at Fremont School, won the superintendent’s award for outstanding improvement in both academic and personal achievement in school. Eighth graders Andrew Heuser and Kelsey Moon received outstanding achievement awards for exemplifying a willingness to cooperate and contribute to Fremont through academic achievement, participation in school activities, citizenship and leadership. Yadav Gowda and Zoe Gryparis received the American Legion School award for showing courage, honor, leadership and patriotism. Thomas Pospiech and Sarah Small received a Daughters of the American Revolution good-citizenship award for showing honor, service, courage, leadership and patriotism. Adam Zarytsky was recognized as the Fremont spelling bee winner. Julia McAndrews was honored with the Character Matters Lake County award for exemplifying positive character traits. Hawthorn Middle School North was awarded a grant by the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation for the installation of a small solar collector and generator. Through computer monitoring, students and teachers will be able to check the amount of electricity generated by the unit. The system is expected to be operational this fall.
