Sky drops to 1-11
Tamika Whitmore scored 17 points to help Indiana (9-4) beat the Sky 77-55, the Fever’s largest margin of victory of the season. Stacey Lovelace-Tolbert led the Sky with 13 points, and Amanda Lassiter added 10. Chicago has the WNBA’s worst record.
NU coach steps down
Northwestern women’s soccer coach Jenny Haigh resigned Wednesday after her team recently was reprimanded for hazing. Northwestern reinstated its women’s soccer program earlier this month after suspending it May 15, and several players are on disciplinary probation.
Iowa gives Alford raise
Iowa announced that coach Steve Alford got a one-year extension that keeps him under contract until 2010. The deal includes a bump in Alford’s annual base salary to $500,000–an increase of 16.7 percent from the previous year–with other deals bringing the total package close to $1.225 million annually.
