I’m writing regarding freelance writer Emily Hauser’s essay “I didn’t get a dad” (Perspective, June 18).
I’m a widow whose husband died suddenly.
My children were 7 and 3 when he died.
This is our fourth Father’s Day without him.
I’m sorry that Hauser’s mom never saw fit to celebrate Father’s Day with her.
We embrace the day.
we remember what a good dad the children had.
And we do something special.
We also make sure that we touch base with other dads, such as the children’s grandfathers.
Just because my children don’t have a dad doesn’t mean dads aren’t important.
Just because Hauser and others don’t have a dad because of death or absence is no reason to stop celebrating dads on one special day.
