Carl Spero, 76, beloved husband of Judy; father of Jonathan (Nejla) and Richard; grandfather of Zakari, Kaiden and Jasmine; uncle of Jeffrey (Carissa); great-uncle of Samantha and Dylan; and numerous, much loved cousins. Died peacefully at home on June 18, 2006. Born and raised in Chicago, he held a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from MIT and a Master’s degree in Philosophy from University of Chicago. Carl came up through the ranks of the family optical business, House of Vision, learning every aspect of the business and eventually became its chief operating officer. After a disabling stroke at age 30, he still enthusiastically embraced life and grasped every opportunity to be with people. He moved to Florida in 1972. He was an avid fisherman and boater and continued these activities as long as his health allowed. One of Carl’s dearest pleasures was travel and he did so extensively. He was predeceased by his beloved sister, Jill; and brother-in-law, Ted Steefel; and their daughter Laura. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Greater Miami Jewish Federation or to Shake-a-Leg Miami, an organization that helps regain confidence or to the charity of your choice.
