Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Thanks to Charles Madigan for his Father’s Day piece in the Tribune.

The Irish still do wakes and funerals the best. And the sessions last for hours.

I don’t know why it is that Catholic priests and churches always seem to get in the way of how we want to celebrate a loved one’s life.

I also think those Guild Women and Holy Name Society-types take themselves a bit too seriously.

Traditional Irish musicians bring the right sense of melancholy to such occasions.

I’m reminded of what the late Irish musician Joe Cooley once said:

Irish music is “the only music that brings people to their senses.”

I loved how all the Madigan family went bowling.

They sent their dad out right.

May God rest his soul.
