An employee of a fast-food restaurant was shot to death Sunday during an apparent robbery on the South Side, police said. The 19-year-old woman was shot, possibly in the chest, about 5:15 p.m. in the KFC restaurant at 83rd Street and South Chicago Avenue. The shooting occurred during a hold-up, but police do not know whether anything was stolen, police said.
Boy in hospital after mauling
A West Side boy was mauled by his father’s three Rottweilers on Friday and remained in the hospital Sunday. Thomas Elliott, 5, was bitten on the face and body, police said. The boy’s father, Maximilian Elliott, said his son had surgery and received stitches. The father was cited for failing to prove the dogs were licensed and that they had been vaccinated for rabies.
Baby fatally struck by car
A 3-month-old boy in a stroller was killed and his father injured when an accident in Edgewater caused one of the vehicles to veer into them, police said. Jayden Smith was pronounced dead at Children’s Memorial Hospital, several hours after the accident at Ashland and West Hollywood Avenues. His father was treated at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston and released.
Teen killed in shooting
A teenager was killed and his friend was hurt by a gunman who shot without warning, police said. Carlos Grear, 16, was in front of his home in the 1200 block of East 72nd Street around 2:15 a.m. when a man walked up, fired several shots and ran off, police said. Grear was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
