The alleged ringleader of an alleged Miami terror cell tried to recruit someone traveling to the Mideast to help get money from Islamic extremists for his plan to blow up U.S. targets, according to new details in a court document.
Last October, Narseal Batiste allegedly tried to enlist a person he thought would make such a journey on his behalf. But that individual instead alerted the FBI, prosecutors say in the court document filed in Miami.
The FBI, in turn, enlisted a “confidential witness of Arabic descent who passed himself off as such a representative.” The informant posed as a representative of Al Qaeda.
Fresh details of the alleged terror plot to blow up Chicago’s Sears Tower and FBI buildings surfaced as the U.S. Attorney’s Office sought to detain the seven defendants arrested on conspiracy charges Thursday.
