Fried chicken aficionados filled our inbox with more than 40 missives. Some offered fresh eatery suggestions. Others said we missed the boat (as in: Where’s Popeye’s? And Del Rhea’s Chicken Basket? Answer: Both lost out in an earlier elimination round.) Here are a few of your comments:
You failed to include Jimmy’s Little Red Hen (653 Vernon Ave.) in Glencoe. Jimmy and his family have been cooking up the best fried chicken for as long as I can remember. He also offers his delicious chicken baked, BBQ, Greek or plain. Jimmy’s definitely needs to be on the list next year.

I enjoyed your article on fried chicken restaurants! Are you up for a road trip? My family’s favorite fried chicken is in Ladd, Ill., at Rip’s Tavern (311 N. Main St.). Four generations of us have enjoyed their food–my grandparents dated at Rip’s in the 1920s. It’s worth the trip to savor their wonderful fried chicken.

I consider myself somewhat of a fried chicken aficionado since it was about the only thing I could eat without feeling sick during a long bout of morning sickness when I was pregnant with my son, now 3 1/2. My favorite fried chicken is from Glenwood Oaks (106 N. Main St.) in Glenwood. They put honey in the crust–need I say more? Personally, I think it would be worth a trip to the south suburbs to try it!
