The ladies of “The View” didn’t have to search for a “hot topic” to discuss at the start of Wednesday’s show. They were hot and bothered enough.

A day after announcing that she planned to leave “The View” this fall and then telling People magazine she felt like she was fired, Star Jones Reynolds was nowhere to be seen Wednesday on the TV talk show.

Show creator Barbara Walters explained, “We didn’t expect her to make this statement yesterday. She gave us no warning.”

ABC had decided against renewing Reynolds’ contract months ago, and the show was planning to let Reynolds announce it later this week, according to Walters, who said they “would back her up” on whatever reason she claimed for leaving. But when Star jumped the gun on the announcement, all bets were off.

“It is becoming uncomfortable for us to pretend that everything is the same at this table,” Walters said. “Therefore, regrettably, Star will no longer be on this program.”

Star, why mess with the woman who can make grown men cry?
