Congress is now locked in an ongoing battle to determine whether the United States should leave Iraq now, withdraw slowly or never leave until the “mission” is complete, whatever that means.
Our president has often admitted, in concert with his war supporters, that terrorism may never end.
And this means that the “mission” of the United States may never end.
To allow the Iraqis to completely relieve our military presence means to relinquish the oil fields to the Iraqis and the rest of the world, which would be erasing the reason for the invasion.
So this argument virtually reduces the options to two alternatives:
– Immediately stop the bloodletting of American soldiers and leave.
– Continue to lose lives and be driven out by the law of diminishing returns.
So here’s the solution:
Since our country has been led down the garden path toward Third World country membership since George W. Bush and the Republican Party have been in concert since 2000, propose the recruitment of every member of the families and extended families of those who supported and still support this war, Republicans and Democrats alike, and send them to Iraq.
To complete the scenario, also send those named members of Congress and the administration as observers to be stationed outside the safety of the Green Zone when they arrive in Iraq.
After this let’s see how the debate in Washington will go.
Bet there’ll be a quick resolution then.
Ain’t it convenient to send someone else to die in your place when you can sit back comfortably and make such decisions about “cut and run”?
And where is good legislation like this when we need it?
