– Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm has vetoed a bill that would have allowed adult motorcyclists to ride without helmets. The mandatory helmet law, which dates back to the 1960s, will remain in place. The legislation would have let riders 21 and older decide whether to wear a helmet if they had passed a safety class or had been licensed for two years. They also would have had to carry an additional $10,000 in personal injury protection insurance coverage.
– A motorcyclist has died after he was struck by lightning while riding in rush hour traffic between Denver and Boulder, police say. Witnesses say they saw a flash of light shortly before Gary Missi, 46, of Longmont hit the center divider on U.S. Highway 36 . He was pronounced dead at the scene.
