– One of my favorite shows is “Cold Case” with Kathryn Morris. It is supposed to take place in Philadelphia. Do they film it there? –James Brent, Washington, D.C.

The cast and crew of the CBS series go there each season to film a certain amount of location scenes. However, the bulk of the show is made in Los Angeles. The situation isn’t unique to that program; for instance, the “CSI” series also do some location work in Las Vegas, Miami and New York every year, yet California remains the headquarters for all of them.

– Where can I find “Now and Again” on DVD? Sela Ward played the lead, and the actor who played her oldest son is now a doctor on “ER.” –Joan Bryan, Baltimore

Actually, you’re thinking of the former ABC series “Once and Again”; “Now and Again” was a different sort of show that aired on CBS. The first two seasons of “Once and Again,” which also featured Shane West as the young man who became the Ward character’s stepson once she married Billy Campbell’s, have been available on disc for a while; try stores that sell videos. Incidentally, no date had been set at this writing for the release of the drama’s third and final season.

– Can you tell me the names of Greg’s parents on “Dharma & Greg” and why they look so familiar? Didn’t they both act in other programs some time ago? –Bobbie Martinez, Englewood, Colo.

Indeed, Susan Sullivan and Mitchell Ryan had many credits under their belts by the time they played Thomas Gibson’s mother and father on the former ABC sitcom — which, incidentally, has just made its DVD debut with a first-season set.

Sullivan is probably otherwise best-remembered as Maggie on the long-running CBS serial “Falcon Crest”; previously, she had starred in the show “It’s a Living,” and she’s made scores of guest-star appearances, including her recurring role toward the end of “The Drew Carey Show.” Ryan also had a big run on the guest circuit, but he also played the title character in the early 1970s police series “Chase.” We also recall him being memorable as Clint Eastwood’s ill-fated police peer in the second movie in the “Dirty Harry” series, “Magnum Force.”
