It is good to see letters about Daniel Barenboim.

Barenboim leaves us with an orchestra much better than Georg Solti did. He has created an extraordinary string section in an orchestra that was already very good: the cellos play with a precision and intonation I have never heard before in person or recording.

Barenboim has further improved the orchestra in a most significant way by replacing several first-chair woodwinds not up to the standard of the rest of the orchestra.

We must thank Barenboim for that particularly because the orchestra will be with us, improving even more, if such is possible, long after memories disappear of weird concerts containing unpopular contemporary music.
