Javeed Akhter compares the religious connection of the Irish Republican Army with the religious connection of the Islamic terrorists (“Overcoming distorted perceptions,” Commentary, June 21). Members of the IRA, however, are not fighting for Catholicism. They are fighting for a unified Ireland. Akhter compares the IRA, the Serbians and the Tamil Tigers of Sri Lanka to the Islamic terrorists. The problem with this comparison is that the IRA, Serbians and Tamil Tigers have never attacked the United States. They have never murdered nearly 3,000 innocent American. They keep their terror in their own countries instead of killing hundreds of innocent people in Indonesia, England, Spain and other countries.
