Loaves to love
Alsip-based Labriola Baking Co.’s terrific artisanal breads are now sold at four farmers markets: two in Chicago (Daley Plaza, Thursdays at Washington and Dearborn St.; Wicker Park and Bucktown, Sundays at Wicker Park and Damen Ave.) and two suburbs (Elmhurst, Wednesdays at York and Vallette St.; Tinley Park, Saturdays at 173rd St. and Oak Park Ave.). Offerings include raisinpecan ficelle, $2.50; ciabatta, $2.25; sour batard, $3; and country Italian, $3.
Fusion rub
These rubs from owner Rohini Dey and chef Maneet Chauhan of Vermilion deliver the distinctive flavors of the Chicago restaurant’s Indian-Latin fusion cuisine. Mint-cilantro, tandoori and roasted cumin-mango can be used when grilling poultry, meat or seafood. A jar contains about 1/2 cup, enough for 8 servings, and costs $5 at the restaurant, 10 W. Hubbard St., 312-527-4060.
Scooping it up
We loved the creative flavor combinations of Stonyfield Farm’s new organic frozen treats. Vanilla chai melds Stonyfield’s premium ice cream with chai from Honest Tea; it’s delicately spiced with ginger, cinnamon and cardamom. Raspberry white-chocolate chunk frozen yogurt combines many flavors in one sublime treat and has just 120 calories per 1/2-cup serving. A pint costs $3.70 at Whole Foods Markets.
