I LOVE …
… the smell of chocolate that fills the air throughout the West Loop area. Thank you, Blommer Chocolate Co. factory for making us feel like we are in heaven.
–Kathy Quickery, Chicago
… Portillo’s Italian beef sandwich (www.portillos.com). The gold standard. The key to the greatness of this Italian beef is the unusually lean beef with no gristle or fattiness and the flavorful spicy au jus.
–Dan Boliaris, Chicago
… summers in Chicago. There is so much to do and so much to see. I love the “Bean,” the lakefront, and the incredible Taste of Chicago fireworks.
–Claire M. Ong, Chicago
I HATE …
… when my husband and I go to a restaurant and the wait person calls us “guys.” “How are you guys tonight? Can I get you guys something to drink?” Eliminate the word “guys” and you have a perfectly good greeting!
–Rose Curnutt, Western Springs
… festival bands that take forever to set up and plug in (get on with it, already).
–Jane Hirt, editor
… hotels that claim they promote water conservation (with those prominent notices on your pillow or the lavatory deck ) and still replace the towels I hung up and change the sheets on the bed I made up for my second night’s stay.
