During the years that I worked as a movie critic for a national publication, I came to know Roger Ebert. While many famous people are impressed with themselves, Roger was impressed by the loyalty of his readers and viewers. He always was unfailingly kind to his fellow journalists.
On one occasion, a group of schoolchildren was leaving a movie at the same cineplex where a press screening had just ended. Roger took time to talk with and listen to his awestruck young fans, and in those few minutes of graciousness, created a lifelong memory for the children.
