Regarding your editorial “Treason?” I believe that this was a classic case of “getting the story.”
Getting this story took precedence over the efforts of our government’s war on terror, which was more real recently here in Chicago than it has been since Sept. 11, 2001, with the most recent discovery of the threats to the Sears Tower.
This reporting was not for the greater good of society, as your editorial indicates in defense of the newspaper.
The general public gains little, if anything, by knowing about this program. The knowledge gained by the terrorist network by the release of this information, however, can do unknown amounts of harm.
I would say that in comparing the two, whose “greater good” did you actually serve?
