Hey, there’s a bear in my burger!
Phew, that’s no bear. It’s a Bear Paw patty from Mendota-based Heartland Meats, and it’s specially shaped for kids–not to mention hungry Cubs and Bears fans. The patties are made of lean but rich-tasting beef raised without added growth hormones. Each 1/4-pound frozen patty is individually packaged and costs $2 at farmers markets in Chicago (including Lincoln Square, Hyde Park and Green City Market), Evanston, Mt. Prospect, Naperville, Oak Park and Wheaton.
`Cone’ appetit
Ben & Jerry’s cones scored universal raves from tasters. They come in two popular B&J flavors–cherry Garcia and chocolate chip cookie dough. The ice cream is scooped into sturdy waffle cones that have chocolate nestled in the bottom to prevent dripping. A box of three 4.6-ounce cones is $4-$4.40 at Treasure Island, Sunset Foods (cherry Garcia only) and online at Peapod.com; some convenience stores also sell individual cones for about $2.20 each.
Soybeans that sizzle
Seapoint Farms’ dry-roasted edamame, or soybeans, deliver a great crunch and a sharp kick from wasabi. A 3.5-ounce bag costs about $1.50-$2 at World Market stores and online at snackaisle.com.
