I am very sad that Chicago is not going to have a flower and garden show in 2007, as reported in the Chicago Tribune article “Chicago flower, garden show won’t bloom again next March” (Metro, June 20).
For the past four years, I have brought a bus full of Iowa gardeners to Chicago for the show.
Last year I brought two full buses.
Next year I was shooting for three.
The timing of the show in March is just right for our “cabin fever.”
As gardeners, in May we are busy planning and planting our own gardens and are too busy to plan a trip to Chicago.
I will not be bringing busloads to the “Garden in the City.”
I wonder if the Chicago powers-that-be understand that the new show will not bring a lot of out-of-state visitors.
