Richard P. Smith, Ph.D., of Plainfield, IL, passed peacefully at his home Tuesday, July 11, 2006. Beloved son of the late Roger C. and Mildred, nee Herman, Smith; loving husband of Ann Marie, nee Semin, Smith; dear father of Paul J. Smith and his family Lisa Judy and Wade Judy, David F. Smith and his wife Mary Nguyen, and Caitlyn A. Smith; fond brother of Lawrence C. Smith, Charles R. (Patricia) Smith, Marilyn (Ronald) Lehenbauer and Luanne Kruse; nephew of Jean Case and Oscar Herman; uncle of Gregory, Daniel, and Kristen Lehenbauer; and cousin of many. Employed as a physicist at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. Visitation from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, at BeidelmanKunsch Funeral Home, Route 59 Chapel, 24021 West Royal Worlington, Naperville, IL. A funeral service will be held at the same location at 10:30 a.m. Friday. On Friday evening, a memorial service focusing on Rich’s professional life will be held at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, Historic Downtown Chapel, 516 South Washington Street, Naperville, IL at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Park in Lincoln, NE.
