A 5-year-old boy was in critical condition late Saturday after slipping and falling from a second-floor window while playing in a South Side home, Chicago police said.

The accident occurred just before 5 p.m. while the boy was playing with water while trying to cool off in a home on the 4400 block of South Wood Street, said Chicago Police Officer John Mirabelli.

He was playing with other children, but they were not injured when the boy fell through an open window. Adults were in the home at the time, but Mirabelli could not provide their relationship to the child.

The boy, whom police declined to identify, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.
