The Q section will go totally interactive July 28. That is, we’re throwing a party along with editors, writers and columnists from our Tribune siblings, At Play and RedEye, starting at 6 p.m. on that Friday at Moretti’s, 1645 W. Jackson Blvd., just seconds from the Loop.
With Chicago bands Veruca Salt (alternative rock) and the Sharky Doyles (Irish rock ‘n’ roll) performing live, the Bump ‘n’ Beach Bash also will spotlight a volleyball tournament and a killer silent auction, including a Chicago Cubs skybox for 18. You never know; you could practically steal the thing–or White Sox tickets, jewelry, wine or many other cool auction items. Proceeds go to Chicago Tribune Charities.
The $15 online admission in advance or $20 at the door makes this a deal for the bands alone, but partygoers also get a first drink and hot dog free, plus a chance to laugh at/cheer on the Tribune team taking on winners of the night’s volleyball tournament, refereed by EVP (Extreme Volleyball Professionals) Pro-Am Tour officials. Best of all, you’ll get to meet the women and men of the Q section, At Play and RedEye.
Q101’s Fook is all psyched up as host of the evening, and slots are available for eight six-person volleyball teams interested in winning valuable prizes to go with bragging rights. The entry fee for team members is $25 each, which at the least gets each member a snazzy goody bag.
