Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

With a name like his, Usher belongs in the theater.

He’ll get his first chance–on Broadway, no less–when he takes on a meaty role in the musical “Chicago.”

The R&B hunk will play conniving lawyer Billy Flynn, producers Barry and Fran Weissler announced Friday.

“I have always admired Broadway actors for their showmanship, dedication and focus that goes into performing live on stage every night,” Usher, 27, said in a statement. “Being on Broadway allows you to connect to audiences in a whole new way that’s different from music and movies.”

Usher opens Aug. 22 and will appear through Oct. 1.
