Frieda P. Simon, 90, of Elgin, wife of the late Dr. Albert J. Simon, passed away Monday, July 17, 2006 in her home. She was born Sept. 30, 1915 in Fargo, ND. She was Valedictorian of her high school class of 1932 and college classes of 1936. She received her Ph.D. in Neurophysiology from University of Chicago in 1939. Her research ultimately led to the development of modern antipsychotic drugs. She was active on the Elgin Community College Board of Trustees from 1967 to early 1980’s. Mother of Dr. Laura Simon (Dr. Mark Lupton) of Janesville, WI and Barbara Njus of Elgin; grandmother of Jesse Njus, Emily, Daniel and Sean Lupton; sister of Charlotte Berk of San Francisco, CA. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 20, 2006 at Congregation Kneseth Israel, 330 Division St., Elgin, with Rabbi Shmuel Mann officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City Cemetery in Elgin. Visitation will be on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until time of Services at Congregation Kneseth Israel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elgin Community College; American Heart Association; Congregation Kneseth Israel; Sherman Hospital in Elgin or to the charity of one’s choice.
